A family is gathered inside during winter, warm and comfortable. Through the window, the cold outdoor patio is visible. A young girl asks: "But what about Bob?" The family is confused — no one knows who Bob is.

The Payoff

Summer → Winter.

Cut to summer: the girl is happily relaxing on an outdoor lounge chair, treating it like a friend and calling it Bob. She leaves and says goodbye to the chair. Cut back to winter: the same chair is left outside, exposed to the cold. A protective cover descends and shields it.
